Nobody likes mornings. Who would seek comfort in waking up at 6am just to go to work? I know I don’t; however, mornings are here to stay (unfortunately!) so I have compiled some of my best tips to help you make the best of a bad situation.
Be prepared – start the night before
A prepared evening makes an easy morning is what I like to think. Spending an extra ten minutes in the evening organising yourself can make a difference to your morning routine. Whether you prepare your lunch, organise your outfit or wash your hair, you will find that less stress is embedded in the morning which makes for a happier you. Plus, spending ten minutes in the evening means an extra ten minutes in bed in the morning! Well, that’s what I like to think anyway.
Now, I am not saying you need to go full-out, yoga loving every morning but having a quick two-minute stretch can banish those morning aches and pains. Taking the time to wake up and move your muscles can be incredibly satisfying, especially if you are like me and end up falling asleep in the weirdest positions!
The first thing I like to do when I wake up is have a big glass of fresh water. Drinking water first thing helps re-hydrate your body and replace any fluids that might have been lost through sweating while you were sleeping.
Have A Shower
The same way that drinking water helps revive your body inside, having a shower can help wake up your body on the outside. It’s amazing the affect a quick, warm shower can help to rejuvenate your senses, taking you from a walking zombie to a prancing pony in less than ten minutes. Plus, you smell great.
Make Time For Breakfast
As the old saying goes, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It kick-starts your metabolism and preps you for the day ahead. If you can, opt for a protein based choice such as eggs as this will help keep you fuller for longer and give you the energy needed to make it to lunch.
